The original song was called \u003cspan style=\"font-style: italic ;\"\u003eHerzen haben keine Fenster\u003c\/span\u003e (\"Hearts have no windows\") and was a hit in Germany and Austria as performed by Austrian singer Elfi Graf. \u003cspan style=\"font-style: italic ;\"\u003eMy Melody of Love\u003c\/span\u003e became Vinton's highest charting US pop hit since \u003cspan style=\"font-style: italic ;\"\u003eMr. Lonely\u003c\/span\u003e reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1964, nearly ten years before. The RIAA-certified gold single spent two weeks at No. 3 on the Hot 100 and one week at No. 1 on the Billboard easy listening chart, the singer's fourth song to top this chart. Its success led to Vinton's nickname \"the Polish Prince\".
