Roberts (who takes \"\u003cspan style=\"font-style: italic ;\"\u003eBlue Monk\u003c\/span\u003e as an unaccompanied solo) already shows some individuality, along with the influence of James P. Johnson, Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk. The music is essentially advanced hard bop, with five Roberts originals (including \u003cspan style=\"font-style: italic ;\"\u003eThe Truth Is Spoken Here\u003c\/span\u003e and \u003cspan style=\"font-style: italic ;\"\u003eNothin' But the Blues\u003c\/span\u003e), two Ellington tunes and \u003cspan style=\"font-style: italic ;\"\u003eBlue Monk\u003c\/span\u003e being performed in spirited fashion.
