About The Record:
Alley Cat, by Bent Fabric, is a lively swing album showcasing the Danish pianist's playful, old-time piano style with a mix of originals and covers that capture a fun, danceable vibe. The title track stands out as the centerpiece, originally known in Denmark as Omkring et Flygel or Under The Table, and it inspired a popular dance craze that became a staple at parties and events across generations. Other notable tracks include fan-favorites like Across the Alley from the Alamo, Catsanova Walk, and Early Morning In Copenhagen, which highlight his lighthearted composing and performing charm. The album's cover, designed by Haig Adishian, earned recognition as a Billboard Album Cover of the Week, adding to its visual appeal in the era. Its historically significant title track won the Grammy for Best Rock & Roll Recording despite its jazz-swing roots and sold over a million copies, while the album itself charted successfully. The hit single Alley Cat reached No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 2 on the Adult Contemporary chart.
