About The Record:

Tchaikovsky: Ballett-Suiten 2 by Mstislav Rostropovich, featuring the Berliner Philharmoniker, presents vibrant orchestral suites drawn from Tchaikovsky's iconic ballets Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake, showcasing the conductor's passionate Slavic energy and the orchestra's luxurious sound in a recording often hailed as a reference for its emotional depth, rhythmic precision, and sheer theatrical joy, with Rostropovich, a legendary cellist transitioning prominently into conducting shortly after his exile from Russia, likening leading the Berlin Philharmonic to driving a powerful locomotive and infusing these performances with spontaneity, charm, and dynamic vitality that stand out even among celebrated interpretations, historically capturing a pivotal moment in his career as he brought Russian interpretive fire to one of the world's premier ensembles during the late 1970s, while fan-favorites include the graceful Swan Theme and lively Valse from Swan Lake along with the majestic Rose Adagio and Panorama from Sleeping Beauty, all rendered with captivating orchestral color and dance-like spirit.
