About The Record:

Marche De L'Esprit: Oedipus Tyrannus, by Mikis Theodorakis, features the London Symphony Orchestra under the composer’s direction, showcasing his distinctive blend of orchestral and Greek musical elements. Marche De L'Esprit, an oratorio based on a poem by Angelos Sikelianos, is a powerful work for soloists, Greek folk instruments, choirs, and orchestra, while Oedipus Tyrannus is an evocative ode for string orchestra, inspired by the Sophocles tragedy. The album, primarily released on vinyl through Polydor, is noted for its dramatic and emotive compositions, reflecting Theodorakis’ skill in merging classical and cultural motifs. There are no widely recognized hit singles from this album, as it is more of a cohesive orchestral work rather than a collection of standalone tracks. Its significance lies in its artistic depth and Theodorakis’ reputation as a leading Greek composer.
