About The Record:

Southern Pacific, self-titled album, marked their debut and showcased a blend of rock and country influences, drawing from the band’s roots with former Doobie Brothers members Keith Knudsen and John McFee. It was historically significant as the band was named New Country Group of the Year upon their debut, reflecting their immediate impact in the country music scene, and their name was later added to the Country Music Association’s Walkway of Stars in Nashville. The album featured notable contributions from songwriters like Tom Petty and Rodney Crowell, with Emmylou Harris providing guest vocals on the hit single Thing About You. Other hit singles included Someone’s Gonna Love Me Tonight, Perfect Stranger, and Reno Bound, with Thing About You reaching the Country Top 20 and Reno Bound hitting the top 10. The album’s success helped establish Southern Pacific as a prominent act in the 1980s country rock genre, paving the way for their subsequent releases.
